      Hola Cecilia , soy del grupo que seguiamos a Astro ( soy kketran) ¿el metodo LAIC es el metodo de astro? . Se ve muy bueno el grupo de face incluso creo que comprare uno de los equipos. Saludos

    ¿Qué tan grande podría ser el siguiente temblor?

    El enjambre sísmico de esta semana golpeó en el centro de una extensión de 300 km de longitud de la megafalla rodeada por dos grandes terremotos recientes. En 2010, el terremoto de Maule de M=8.8 ocasionó la ruptura en la región del sur y, en 2015, el terremoto de Illapel de M=8.3 ocasionó la ruptura en la región del norte (Melgar et. al., 2016). Los últimos grandes terremotos que han ocurrido dentro de esta extensión fueron en 1971 (M=7.9) y en 1985 (M=8.0), y desde entonces han transcurrido 60 años. Debido a que la subducción de largo plazo, o la velocidad de deslizamiento en la megafalla, es de aproximadamente 80 mm/año, se acumuló un déficit de aproximadamente 4-5 m de deslizamiento. Si repentinamente, una sección de 300 km x 100 km de la megafalla se deslizara 4-5 m (12-16 ft), eso produciría un temblor de M~8.3. Eso es equivalente a aproximadamente, o un poco más grande, que los temblores de 1971 y 1985 juntos.

    Este mapa de Temblor presenta la ubicación del enjambre sísmico reciente (Con la M=6.9 resaltada). Además, las zonas de ruptura de los terremotos de 2010 y 2015 se muestran de color morado. Estos sismos, más la sismicidad reciente, han ocasionado un estrés muy importante en el área, capaz de generar un terremoto de M=8.3-8.4.

    Uno de los terremotos más destructivos de las próximas décadas podría tener lugar en las proximidades de la capital de Chile, Santiago, con una magnitud mínima estimada de 8,3 puntos Mw según un estudio de un equipo de científicos chilenos y franceses publicado en la revista Earth and Planetary Science Letters.

    Este es un análisis de las consecuencias del fuerte terremoto de 8,3 puntos de magnitud que se produjo cerca de la localidad chilena de Illapel en septiembre de 2015, que permitió a los científicos descubrir el patrón del ‘terremoto del siglo’.

    La razón de estos devastadores terremotos que se producirán en el futuro se debe a que la placa tectónica de Nazca está constantemente convergiendo bajo la placa Sudamericana.

    Este proceso transcurre hoy en día a un ritmo de unos ocho centímetros al año. De este modo, surge una brecha de unos 4,5 metros que es compensada cada 70 años, provocando como consecuencia potentes terremotos.

    A pesar del hecho de que la zona más afectada por el futuro sismo será la capital de Chile, el epicentro del terremoto estará en la ciudad de Valparaíso, situada a unos cien kilómetros de Santiago.

    El terremoto más grande jamás registrado, uno de 9.5 puntos en 1960, ocurrió también en Chile, a unos 570 kilómetros al sur de Santiago.

    Disculpa mi ignorancia pero no entiendo como puedes comparar un echo que ocurrió en 1859 donde no se disponía de equipos que pudieran evaluar la magnitud de la explosión con la de ahora. Saludos

    Hola Orión:Se han hecho estimaciones de NASA y ESA de esa tormenta,hay registros de auroras boreales vistas en Cuba y México en 1859,a esa tormenta se le llama”evento o tormenta Carrington”.Para que tuvieramos problemas serios actualmente tendría que haber una serie a rafaga de destellos Clase X10 o mas con EMC.
